Habitat Delivers More Holiday Happiness

"And hope that makes life cheerful and serene. We dedicate this home," said Bill Moriarty of Habitat for Humanity.

He was leading the dedication for a new home on Murray Street in East Biloxi.

It will be a blessed Christmas for the Isaac family. No more cramped trailer living.

"This is my room!" said an almost giddy Lorenzo.

The smile on his nine-year-old face says it all. He's got a room of his own for the first time.

Down the hall, his sisters don't mind sharing. Dominique and Denisha are amazed at the size of their new house.

"I like it because it's big," said one sister.

"It's big and more room for us to move around," added the other.

Mom is appreciative of the spacious kitchen.

"I love it. It's a large kitchen, cabinets everywhere," said a joyful Nicole Isaac.

The home at 620 Murray Street, near Yankie Stadium, represents another reason for hope in this East Biloxi neighborhood.

"It means a great deal. To have a home. Coming back since the storm, it means a lot," said the new home owner, who works as a teacher's aide in Biloxi.

"My wife and I are volunteers and we've been in the area since Katrina. And to be able to see families in new homes it's very, very inspiring," said Habitat's Moriarty.

"Lorenzo was so excited to put the tree up," says mother Nicole, "Our first Christmas at home."

It will no doubt be a holiday to remember. Two plus years after a storm left devastation and misery, hope means families finding their way home again.

"We thank you for this time. We thank you for this home," said Father Steve, who offered the invocation.

Since the first of this year, Habitat for Humanity of the Mississippi Gulf Coast has dedicated 90 new homes.

Testimonials

I had a great time. Only wish it were a little cooler so we could have gotten more done. I was impressed with the NCCC kids. They were friendly, and more importantly, motivated. I look forward to getting down there again to contribute.
