Wells Fargo customers select HFHMGC for donation

Wells Fargo honors 11 non-profits to celebrate its arrival on the Mississippi Coast;

BILOXI (Oct. 27, 2010) – Wells Fargo & Company  celebrated its arrival on the Mississippi Coast today by honoring 11 non-profit groups with charitable donations and by bringing its iconic stagecoach to the area for the first time.

With the stagecoach as the backdrop at its Biloxi Main location, the company recognized five statewide organizations who are receiving a total of $40,000. The stagecoach remained in place after the ceremony for passers-by to enjoy, sit in and photograph.

Earlier at the bank, Wells Fargo held a breakfast for six local non-profits, with each selected by local managers and team members for $1,000 gifts through a program new to Mississippi called Days of Giving.

To divide the $40,000 to statewide groups, the companies asked customers to vote on which would receive the larger checks. The American Red Cross for Mississippi was chosen by the most customers and received $15,000; Habitat for Humanity of the Mississippi Gulf Coast was second and received $10,000; and the American Heart Association for Mississippi, the Mississippi Food Network and the Mississippi Homebuyer Education Center received $5,000 each.

“It’s a great day for us and we hope for the community,” said Don Doyle, district manager for the area. “This kind of community involvement and commitment is what we intend to bring to the Mississippi Coast for years to come.”

Today’s events helped mark a Wells Fargo milestone. Following the company’s merger with Wachovia at the end of 2008, Wachovia financial centers across Mississippi became Wells Fargo banking stores on Sept. 25.

In July, Wachovia customers received ballots by mail, asking them to vote for their top choice from the five statewide groups. Voting ended in August. The grants are part of a broader 2010 integration-related charitable effort to provide more than $1 million to organizations serving people in need.

The company has more than 232,000 customers in Mississippi. Across the state frontline managers in the company’s 13 bank stores, in consultation with team members, selected groups for $1,000 Days of Giving donations based on which ones they knew were helping out in the community. The program allows the company to help more groups and build a strong local connection with them.

“A hallmark of Wells Fargo is local decision-making and local involvement,” said Fred Osing, business banking leader for the Mississippi Coast. “We’re connecting with local communities in a whole new way. We also know the needs continue to be great across the area, especially now.”

Testimonials

I had a great time. Only wish it were a little cooler so we could have gotten more done. I was impressed with the NCCC kids. They were friendly, and more importantly, motivated. I look forward to getting down there again to contribute.
