TV Actress Jane Krakowski Promotes Habitat For Humanity

GULFPORT (WLOX) -- A well known national company and a famous actress are using their notoriety to bring attention to Habitat For Humanity. On Thursday, Jane Krakowski, star of the television show 30 Rock, and dozens of employees from Tropicana went to work building homes in Gulfport.

Working in the Mississippi heat didn't seem to matter to the 100 Chicago area volunteers.

"It's a lot of hard work. Obviously, a lot of sweat," said Mick Guzman. "But it's really nice to put out so much energy and effort that you know is going to a good cause."

That good cause is Habitat For Humanity. Tropicana Coastal Groves employees are helping to build houses. And the company is printing information about the non-profit on its lemonade containers as part of a three year partnership.

Kristin Kroepfl is among the volunteers.

"It's something that we're really proud of. It goes beyond promoting it on our carton. We're also very proud of spreading the word for consumers and letting them know that there is still a need and how they can get involved. "

Actress Jane Krakowski dropped by to lend a hand and her fame to the cause.

"People need to know what's going on and so many more houses need to be built," said Krakowski.

Habitat For Humanity officials say while every volunteer is appreciated, a well-known name can bring added awareness that more help is needed here.

CEO of Habitat For Humanity Gulf Coast Chris Monforton said, "It brings a lot of attention, good attention, back to the coast. It's kind of exciting to work with somebody famous. It puts a little pep in your step with the volunteers."

While volunteers were star struck by Krakowski, the actress expressed her admiration for their hard work.

Krakowski said, "They are real houses. They are really giving people a chance to create a new future for themselves. So it's really impressive."

"It just shows that we're all people," said Mick Guzman. "Everyone cares, and everyone needs to just do a little bit. If everyone does a little bit, we can down great work."

Over the next three years, Tropicana employees say they plan to help build nearly 100 Habitat Homes throughout the country.
