HFHMGC has a wide range of volunteers with varying skill levels. Volunteers will not be turned away for lack of construction knowledge. We have trained construction staff that lead volunteers in the daily tasks.
HFHMGC is currently building new homes and performing rehab work on damaged ones . Volunteers may participate in framing, roofing, siding, finishing work, and basic landscaping. The tasks that are assigned to volunteers are dependant on the current stage/state of the home, previous volunteer accomplishments, weather, and permitting.
To successfully complete our mission in this region we depend on the generosity of our volunteers' time and efforts. Every hour that is invested helps a deserving family to achieve the dream of home ownership.
Volunteers work Tuesday through Saturday. They begin their work day at 8:00 a.m. and work until about 4:00 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break. There is also the option to work for a single day or a half-day.
HFHMGC has approximately 70 volunteers each week travel to the region from all over the country. There are also local volunteers who come out and help as well as the homeowners whom we are building for. Each site is lead by a Construction Supervisor and Assistant Construction Supervisor.
Our volunteers say the favorite part of their week is knowing that they made a difference in someone else’s life. The volunteer opportunity is also self-satisfying. Many of our volunteers begin to plan future trips to come work with us before their work week ends.
