Facts About Buying A Home From Habitat For Humanity

Who are we?
Habitat for Humanity of the Mississippi Gulf Coast is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to helping families throughout Harrison, Jackson, & Stone Counties to achieve their goal of homeownership.

Who do we serve?
To qualify for our homeownership program, applicants must currently reside within Harrison, Jackson, or Stone County.

We currently serve individuals and families with a total household income within 25% to 80% of the Area Median Income for the county where they will purchase a home. To see the current income limits for your household size, please click HERE or on the table at the bottom of this page.

Applicants interested in purchasing a home from HFHMGC are evaluated based upon three criteria:
1. Need
2. Ability to pay
3. Willingness to partner

What do we offer?
Our homeownership program offers qualified buyers the opportunity to PURCHASE a home from HFHMGC. We build and rehabilitate high quality homes for sale at affordable prices. We also work with each qualified buyer to help them secure affordable financing and homebuyer assistance when it is available. The specific types of assistance available to our buyers vary over time, but examples of what may be available include:
1.) Down payment assistance
2.) 0% interest financing for some or all of the purchase price
3.) Help with closing costs and homeowners’ insurance
4.) Homebuyer education and individual counseling

While we strive to help each buyer secure an appropriate amount of assistance to make the home affordable, buyers buy our homes. To qualify for our program, each buyer must be eligible under all program criteria, must be willing to actively participate in the home buying process, and must be able to afford the mortgage payment and other expenses associated with purchasing the home.
