Faith Relations
MISSION: This committee engages the Faith Community for purposes of advancing and executing Habitat for Humanity of the MS Gulf Coast’s vision. To coordinate with church missions committees and faith promise committees to recruit volunteers and support from churches and other faith groups.
GOALS:
- Market to churches via phone and email to send them bulletin inserts.
- Engage missions committees to continue sending volunteers.
- Populate our volunteer database.
- Serve to host larger scale faith and church events.
- This committee involves itself in some phone canvassing outside the regular monthly meeting time. Actual scripts and training will be provided.
Planned Giving
MISSION:
These volunteers regularly engage the community for purposes of helping show people how they can Leave a Legacy. Assist in advancing and executing Habitat for Humanity of the MS Gulf Coast’s vision. Elevate the awareness of planned/charitable giving over the longer-term, and to establish relationships with those who have an affinity with Habitat’s mission.
GOALS:

Charitable Gift Annuities
Trusts
Pension Assets
Charitable Remainder/Charitable Lead Trusts
Life Estates
Bargain Sale
Life Settlements
Appreciated Assets (stock, real estate, businesses)
- You will be trained and educated on each of the above related topics. These topics are good for your own personal benefit as well.
Grants
MISSION:
Learn how to prospect, write and administer grants from corporations, foundations, governmental entities, etc. These committee members will work with our outside consultant and develop the ability to independently manage the grant submission process.
GOALS:
- Work with staff and consultant(s) to learn how to prospect available sources for securing grants.
- Work with staff to learn how to manage the grant submission process.
Work with internal and external supporters to execute and administer grants as directed by Leadership.
- You will be trained by our grant writing consultant on how to write grants for funding to corporations, foundations, etc. This will be a great education source for any work/service you may perform in the future for any non-profit. You will actually write and submit grants for Habitat to various corporations and foundations.
Special Events
MISSION:
Serve the internal and external customers of HFHMGC with event support and coordination to fulfill our vision. To mobilize volunteers to engage in serving the Special Events needs of the affiliate. This pool of events minded supporters will compliment our advancement and development efforts.
GOALS:
- Work with Community Sponsors, House Sponsors, Corporate Team Builders and Faith Sponsors, along with internal customers to advance the mission.
- Serve to elevate the public perception of HFHMGC by creating high profile and high quality events.
- Some of the activities this committee will perform include:
House Dedications (signs, banners, dedications, programs, etc.)
Corp. Events (SQ D, Thrivent, PGA, JCWP, World Baseball Classic)
Raffles
Auctions
Annual Breakfast
- This may involve you working alongside celebrities from time to time, as well as coordinating plans and activities with their involvement. Some we have scheduled include: Major League Baseball, PGA Tour Players, Jimmy Carter, and other corporations events.
Family Selection
Mission: The Family Selection Committee (FSC) is comprised of no fewer than 10, and not more than 20 members who are residents of Harrison or Jackson counties. The FSC will:
- Attend monthly meetings (meetings bay be cancelled or added as necessary);
- Conduct a unified review process of each application;
- Visit the homes of applicants for the purpose of determining the applicant's suitability for HFHMGC's homeownership program.
Family Support Committee
MISSION: This committee engages HFHMGC Partner Families as they prepare for homeownership and in their first year of homeownership.
GOALS:
- Identify, recruit, train, and coordinate homeowner mentors for Partner Families in need of extra support as they earn sweat equity and save for closing costs.
- Work with staff and Partner Families to plan house dedications.
- Assist staff in review process for families who do not satisfy their obligations under the Partnership and recommend appropriate actions to BOD.
- And… whatever piques the interest of our volunteers. This is a new committee and we are eager for input from volunteers regarding how they would like to contribute to our Partner Families’ experience.
